    Dramatic Rescue!

    Baby Birds

A friend of mine has been doing some clearing of exotic vegetation with his chainsaw and almost missed this nest of baby birds in the process.

The noise of the chainsaw is deafening and with his ear guards on he thought that much wild gesticulating meant he needed to cut that branch more deeply before it would fall.

Luckily he managed to avoid the nest and now a tree stands devoid of branches but for this one lone nest refuge.

The birds are called "Bokmakeries" in common terms and are actually shrikes.

Enjoy this rare view of chicks only a few days old.

    that takes me back..

a couple years ago i came accross 2 baby robins that had been flung out of the nest by a scrub jay. they're mother was all sorts of stressed out and by the end of the day had left completely. i assume she thought the jay had killed her young..

i couldn't leave them. i took them home with me. (which is illegal) raised them. then took them to the local bird sanctuary (that before i didn't know exsisted!) now every time i see a robin i think of my babies!

i guess i was just supposed to let them die. :o( but there is way too much death in the world anyway.

such a sweet story. Well you could have let them die but sometimes it's not destructive to interfere with nature's way such as in this case. But I get you..I have raised several orphan birds many of which went on to spread their own genes and live long lives. I have also lost several birds - after which I almost always bawl my eyes out a bit...sometimes they are beyond saving. But it's a great feeling when it works, they are like kids...almost :)

    Love the pix!
I rescued a crow once and tried to nurse it back to health. It died. I cried.

Tim>>> yes it's a hard thing to cope with when an animal you cared for dies..even though it's just how things go...there is a tender place in me that does not....toughen up.

Trans>>> yes that is also the way I feel about this pic. and the way I guess we should all feel about our lives not matter how old we are..we should all be hanging out with out hungry mouths open hee

Greep>>>yes I am glad they lived..they will be getting tiny rings on their legs soon so we can keep track of them..
